1824-1898 French landscape painter. Encouraged at an early age by Jean-Francois Millet, Boudin became a strong advocate of painting directly from nature. In 1874 he exhibited with the Impressionists, but, unlike those painters, he was not an innovator, and from 1863 to 1897 he exhibited regularly in the official Salon. His favourite subjects were beach scenes and seascapes, which show remarkable sensitivity to effects of atmosphere; on the backs of his paintings he recorded the weather, light, and time of day. Nikolai Yaroshenko
(Ukrainian: Mykola Oleksandrovych Yaroshenko; Russian: December 13 [O.S. Dec. 1] 1846 in Poltava - July 7 [O.S. June 25] 1898 in Kislovodsk) was a Russian painter of Ukrainian origin. Nikolai Alexandrovich Yaroshenko was born on December 13 [O.S. Dec. 1] 1846 in the city of Poltava, Russian Empire (now in Ukraine) to a son of a Russian Army officer. He chose a military career, but also studied art at Kramskoi's drawing school and at the Saint Petersburg Imperial Academy of Arts. In 1876, he became a leading member of a group of Russian painters called the Peredvizhniki (also known as the Itinerants).
Juan Martin Cabezalero
1633-1673 was a Spanish draftsman and painter. Born in Almaden, he studied under Juan Carreno de Miranda, court painter to Charles II of Spain; Cabezalero lived at Carreno de Miranda's house until 1666. Both he and Carreno were influenced by Van Dyck. Few works by Cabezalero have survived. His surviving works include his St Jerome (1666, Meadows Museum, Southern Methodist University, Dallas) and the Assumption of the Virgin (ca. 1670; Madrid, Prado). The latter had been formerly attributed to Mateo Cerezo, also a pupil of Carreno de Miranda. Antonio Palomino praises Cabezalero's modest, studious nature and laments that he died young.
